Change: The Inevitability of Dangerous Opportunities

  • enthusiastically embrace it
  • attempt to deny information technology
  • stubbornly resist

Only in the finish, well-nigh of life's dangerous opportunities go on with or without your consent.

Years agone, I discovered the inevitability and the indestructibility of change when a critical piece of newspaper survived a firm burn that destroyed everything else I owned. It was eerie. Had it not actually happened to me, I'd exist doubtful.

When this certificate denoting the Chinese word for change made it through a house fire that destroyed everything else that I owned, I knew I had to frame it.

When this certificate denoting the Chinese word for change made it through a house fire that destroyed everything else that I endemic, I knew I had to frame it.

Change: Dangerous Opportunity

I had just graduated from college three weeks prior. As role of graduation ceremonies, the director of my program had awarded each pupil a newspaper certificate of the Chinese word for alter. As he bid us cheerio and good luck, he described the many dangerous opportunities that we would run across in our lives after graduation. He explained that how you perceive and adapt to life's "dangerous opportunities" can make all the divergence.

The business firm fire that consumed 40 percent of my family unit's home was an electrical fire that started in the roof of the garage bordering my small bedroom. There were cans of oil, gas, and other household accelerants that sadly ensured that it burned hot and spread quickly. Thankfully, most of my family was abroad visiting relatives, so no lives were lost.

In searching through the burn's rubble for anything salvageable, someone pulled out my change certificate. Information technology was the but item in my bedroom that wasn't utterly destroyed by burn down, fume, or water.

How this paper certificate survived a house burn with simply smoke stains, I don't know. Only today, more than than two decades later on, it is proudly framed and displayed in my home as a reminder of the importance of how you perceive and adapt to alter. Change can interruption you. Or information technology can encourage you to redouble your efforts. It's up to you.

Questions & Answers

Question: At that place is a song I heard last night, and I think Phil Collins sang information technology, but I tin't find it anywhere. The but lyrics I remember are "at that place is not enough time for change." Do you have any ideas?

Respond: I've searched extensively using those lyrics as well as lyrics close to them. I've also taken to YouTube and perused Phil Collins and Genesis songs merely in case. There were no matches for the lyrics that would come up anywhere close to sounding similar Phil Collins (i.e., they were female, African American groups, not the right genre, etc.). Thus, I'm left to wonder if the lyrics aren't quite right. That's actually mutual.

Rather than return no results, I'll requite you two Genesis songs that do refer to change and at that place non being enough time.

"Please Don't Enquire" (1980) past Genesis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enlrC2jRg_w

Sample lyrics:

It'due south not enough, it'southward not plenty

This feeling I'm feeling inside

Oh I know information technology I know tonight that I'll exist

On my own this night, lone again tonight

Oh I'k solitary again, lonely once again this night

Oh I'grand lone again, and it seems to me that every time I endeavor to change

Say that yous'll, say that you'll

Help me attain the other side

Aid me delight 'cause I know I'thou gonna exist

On my own again alone once again tonight... .

Also check out:

"Feeding the Fire" (1986) by Genesis https://www.youtube.com/watch?five=k4rSI8_Z6DQ

Sample Lyrics:

Many a thing that used to be a surreptitious

Has get so talked most

Not worth a second idea

There's different kinds of secrets now

Times change, it's not enough to say

It seemed a proficient idea a hundred years ago

You think information technology'south non your problem

It really doesn't affair at all.

Question: What song has lyrics "to brand a change, to make a change"?

Respond: There are several songs that I establish with that double echo of "to brand a modify," including the following:

one) "The Meter Marks Ok" (2005) by Loney Dear, a Scottish alt rock singer-songwriter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx1h5Y6feqA

2) "Nerf" (a parody of Ellie Goulding's song "Burn down") by Instalok, a creative grouping that performs parodies of popular songs https://www.youtube.com/sentry?five=WvFW_FCatLM

3) "Twenty Two" (1997) by Millencolin, a Scottish punk ring https://world wide web.youtube.com/sentry?v=zeuXFT0D_KA

Question: What song has lyrics "irresolute the globe, building the change"?

Reply: The closest I could detect to these lyrics was the 2012 electronic/dance song "Louder" past DJ Fresh (featuring Sian Evans) https://www.youtube.com/picket?v=eE-dwpWpscU which features the lyrics, "We're powerfully changing the world" and talks nigh the chemical science edifice. It'due south an uplifting and positive change song fifty-fifty though it doesn't 100% fit your quoted lyrics. Give it a listen in example y'all either didn't recall the lyrics correctly or desire a adept song near modify to inspire you.

Question: What songs have lyrics "alter myself"?

Answer: Following are several very different songs that include "modify myself."

1) "Wake Up the Mountain" by Helloween (1996) is a metal song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?5=3jEM4p_YNas Lyrics containing "change myself" are as follows:

Though I cannot alter the world we're living in

I can e'er change myself

2) "Deep Within of You" by 3rd Eye Blind (2000) is an alternative rock vocal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBk509ntyUs Hither are lyrics containing the two words you lot wanted:

I've never felt alone

'Til I met you

I'1000 all right on my own

And then I met you

And I'd know what to do if I just knew what's coming

I would alter myself if I could.

3) "Change Myself" by Todd Rundgren (1991) is a rock song https://www.youtube.com/sentry?v=v10gEIUcK70. Hither are the lyrics excerpts with the two relevant words you are looking for:

I desire to change the world

I want to brand information technology well

How can I change the earth

When I tin't modify myself.

Hope you found something helpful here.

Martie Coetser from South Africa on December xi, 2016:

Flourish, this is quite a profound list of music, and especially the captions. I hate changes, but I know how important information technology is to adapt, and then I simply tackle them by the horn, just to look back afterward some time to realize (once again) that 99% of all changes in my life was a step or three closer to inner peace and happiness.

Cheers for this thought-provoking list of songs about changes.

Pecker Holland from Olympia, WA on December xi, 2016:

I similar your personal reflections at the beginning. It is so absurd, the way music intertwines with our personal lives, how some songs seem to speak to united states of america and the events of our lives. Great listing!
